Influence of social media,
has made people lose sight of reality.
When one gets hurt, people flock to take pictures
rather than helping the person.
Whatโ€™s more important,
someoneโ€™s life or a viral image?
Sadly, the latter seems to be
a priority of the mass.
A child being harassed,
itโ€™s the talk of the town;
but did any turn up to help?
I highly doubt so.
Suicides committed,
everyone suddenly has a story to tell,
of what that person was,
and the mass as always has a huge interest
in making that moment viral
cooking up the various tales of the person no more.
Has sympathy no more values?
It is a sad world over shadowed by internet,
a cruel world, an era of viral
where humanity is lost to reels;
and reels, the new reality.

Happy readings ๐Ÿ™ƒ

      1. Writings whatever the forms are, are need too much at least in the present socio-political scenario to express what’s lying within… That is important for an individual… Keep writing and inspiring others … Also really glad to have you in my project โ˜บ๏ธโ˜บ๏ธโ˜บ๏ธโ˜บ๏ธโ˜บ๏ธ

      2. I agree to that and it is writting where one can express much better.
I will try my very best to do that, thank you. ๐Ÿ˜Š
I am glad to be part of it, looking forward to it. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿค—

  1. You’ve spoken the truth in this revealing beautiful poem, Daph dear. The Internet has overshadowed people’s integrity and virtues of living, and people are now possessed with the desire to know and discuss about other people’s mistakes and misdeeds on social media instead of helping even the least. I agree with this line of thoughts. Quite the naked truth, quite the status quo. ๐Ÿค” Where is humanity headed to? ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–

    1. Thank you so much Lam! Really glad you hear you think so as well. Internet can be a very good place if used correctly but sadly I feel its been misused most times. It is indeed a question to ask where humanity is headed. โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

      1. Yes. You’re most welcome. These days no one bats an eyelash at the evil things happening, but instead go all the way mocking the victim. For e.g. I saw a post about a school boy who had been raped by his teacher, and instead of people decrying such an ill, they began critizing the kid, asking what he had gone to do in the teacher’s house when he got raped. Really? It’s a world standing upside down.

      2. It’s a sad world ๐ŸŒŽ ๐Ÿ˜ž. Your poem opens up a topic worth discussion, Daph. Given the rate at which children are exposed to the Internet as early as weeks old, it raises questions as to whether future generations have human interactions and kindness as a virtue. A few days ago, i was surprised when my five-year old nephew stood by the bed taking a phone video of his lil brother who was throwing his arms and legs in the air yelling for attention, instead of comforting the kid!! Just see where the world’s headed. I even think if he knew the clips could be posted online he’d have done so. ๐Ÿ˜€

      3. It’s happening as we watch, dear. By the time we grow old, AI’s shall have fully replaced human interactions. I look at it with a heart of sympathy ๐Ÿค” Itโ€™s a change hard to live by ๐Ÿ˜€

      4. Yes. But the warnings are good for a listening ear. For a parent who wishes the best for their kids, that their kids may not grow with a heart of stone, these piece in your poem are worth considering. It’s easy to turn the direction of a tree while it’s still young. ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒบ

  2. Oh, this is a lovely poem, and tale of truth. Though I partake in social media for my poetry, there are many issues with the way people use these platforms. I agree with you completely about these spaces becoming peoples singular reality. Thatโ€™s not helpful. Wonderful light you are shining on a wide issue here, Daphny. ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–

    1. Thank you so much Jeff! Social media can be used for many achievements but sadly I feel like its being more misused by the day.
I am extremely glad to hear such positivity from you my friend. ๐Ÿฅฐโค๏ธ

  3. Beautiful poem Daphny expressing the harsh reality of social media – well done you and thank you for sharing๐Ÿ‘. It really is all about the balance and using it in a more “healthier” way. I only use it for hobbies and deleted social media apps from my phone (not as tempting or freely available then ๐Ÿ˜‰). I’ve written a blog post on social media (from a few months back) if you ever fancied a read โค

    1. Thank you so much Bernie, I am glad to have written this one. ๐Ÿ™‚ Yeah you’re right it is more about balance and if using the right way there are many benefits to it.
Haha… I get you, I deactivated my social media accounts few years back just got back on it when I know I will be able to use it the right way. ๐Ÿ˜
I definitely will head there to read it for sure. ๐Ÿ’–

      1. Yes, it’s true dear. We teach values but what is the use of it. Students watch and play ruff and tuff shooting games and they grow up as a angry young person.Their growth depends on home , surrounding and school.

    1. Thank you so much Sasha! Yeah people are forgetting it. The other day I saw someone announce having a baby through surrogacy and people were trolling her so badly saying she didn’t want to ruin her body and so on, it’s extremely sad. They don’t even know what that person must have went through to have her baby.
